Physics Support for Islington Schools
An INSET session was held in the physics laboratory at
City and Islington (map)
on 28th June 2011 at 4pm looking at ways of teaching electricity and electromagnetism at GCSE.
Electricity
Alan Baugh from the Institute of physics showed us some of the
SPT (Supporting Physics Teaching) materials from the the Institute of Physics TalkPhysics site,
you will need to register on this site to access these free materials.
We looked at pupils misconceptions about electricity and tried out some of the activities in the resources and
built some simple circuits that we commonly used in class and discussed how we might talk about them with our classes.
Electric motors
Most of the teachers should be aware of the practicalphysics.orgwebsite.
Most of the practicals are standard text book stuff, but the details of how to get things working are good.
